Pinterest has announced some exciting news for Frenchies – a special version of Pinterest with localized search, content & categories, “as well as links to more French domains and pins with descriptions in French.” The update comes just weeks after Pinterest launched in the UK and announced its intentions to launch in France, and after Pinterest began hunting for a French Country Manager. It’s no secret that the US team is out in Paris this week; they are even rumored to be throwing a cocktail event at the Salon Marbeuf tonight at 6:00PM.
The Pinterest announcement saw the introduction of the first two “French Pinners” – Sara from PetitPoulou and cooking blogger Dorian Nieto – and marks the beginning of their efforts to create a French Pinterest community. With Pinterests female appeal as well as their prowess in all things food, beauty, fashion & the arts, France is a natural market for the social network, and it will be interesting to see where they fall in the eyes of the French government. Will Pinterest be a hate-speech mongering Twitter, a tax-avoiding & data-stealing Facebook, or perhaps it will build its own relationship with France and the media.
