An email from Loic & Geraldine arrived in my inbox this morning, announcing that the LeWeb Paris startup competition applications were officially open. In addition to the free ticket that comes with qualification for the startup competition, participation in LeWeb’s startup competition has traditionally offered a nice amount of exposure to investors & clients; winning, LeWeb, on the other hand, is worth its weight in term sheets.
While startups are not required to satisfy LeWeb’s theme – this year’s is the “Internet of Things” – it does certainly give you a boost in the qualification process. In addition, startups are required to have taken in no more than €1,5M in funding and must be launching their product at LeWeb. Personally, I don’t know many European startups with €1,5M who haven’t launched their product, but I guess it’s just a double security check.
Entry into the contest is, of course, free, and applications are due by midnight (PST) on October 21st. The semifinalists will be announced one month before the event.
Among last year’s finalists, 3rd Place’s Babelverse just announced a round of runding which included 500 Startups & 2nd Place HeyCrowd has been growing steadily in France & UK for the last year.
