The private car, taxi alternative market in France is showing no signs of slowing in France. Although the sector has faced steep resistance in France, many of the rising Uber-like players in the market continue to expand and raise funding. Last month, SnapCar raised €2 million and, kicking-off the New Year, Chauffeur-privé has announced that they’ve raised €5 million with CM-CIC Capital privé and XAnge, the venture arm of the French postal service’s bank (La Banque postale). This adds to another round raised earlier this year.
Chauffer-privé already claims to be number 2 in the French market, following #1 Uber. Founded just three years ago by Yan Hascoët, Othmane Bouhlal & Omar Benmoussa, they started with 10 to 15 cars and now can boast of 3000 drivers and 300k clients. The plan to draw on their new funds to expand their growth in France outside of Paris and the Cote d’Azur where their most active as well as expanding elsewhere in Europe, with a first focus on countries bordering France.
As Uber has continued to dominate many markets despite a myraid of legal challenges and setbacks,Chauffeur-privé has, similar to other players in the sector, decided to focus on offering a more comprehensive service (ie on-demand and reservations) as well as an enterprise offer.
